about · weld.africa, creative agency
A wheel is made to leave. Lock it in a cage and it becomes a question.
Africa is one ground. Everyone started here, and each of us still carries a piece of that first road.
Across the continent, the tools decide who passes: a pirogue, a moped, a pick-up loaded to the sky, a Land Cruiser opening the track. At the end of the list come the only two that open every border, the passport and the money.
Weld what was kept apart.
weld.africa does not tell history. It makes images: films, prints, clothes, objects, maps, and one day a game.
The mark is a sign to wear, like a team jersey for a whole continent. Whoever wears it is part of the crew, whatever their origin, their papers or their path.
One continent, one crew.
the name · one word, two languages
In English, w-e-l-d means joining two pieces of metal by melting one into the other. Arabic writes only the consonants, right to left: و ل د, w-l-d. Said walad in classical Arabic and weld in the Maghreb, it means the child. It is the Ould of Mauritanian names, “son of”.
Same skeleton, two gestures: to be born of a union, to make one.
A release, a collection, an identity, a film, a space. Say what you want to make, and when.

Road clothes for a crew crossing the continent in winter. Welder's coveralls, team jackets, convoy puffers, shemaghs. Heavy cotton, wool, ripstop, black screen print. Nothing decorative: every pocket works, every seam holds.
